COVID-19 associated central nervous system manifestations, mental and neurological symptoms: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract The ongoing pandemic of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has infected more than 27 million confirmed cases and 8,90,000 deaths all around the world. Verity viral infections can infect nervous system; these present a wide range manifestation. aim current study was to systematically review COVID-19 associated central system manifestations, mental neurological symptoms. For that we conducted comprehensive systematic literature four online databases, including Web Science, PubMed, Scopus Embase. All relevant articles reported psychiatric/psychological symptoms or disorders in without considering time language restrictions were assessed. procedures performed based on PRISMA criteria. Due screening, 14 studies included. result indicated that, pooled prevalence CNS with 95% CI 50.68% (6.68–93.88). most hyposmia/anosmia/olfactory dysfunction (number study: 10) 36.20% (14.99–60.51). Only one numbness/paresthesia dysphonia. Pooled dysphonia 5.83% (2.17–12.25) 2.39% (10.75–14.22). depression anxiety 3.52% (2.62–4.54) 13.92% (9.44–19.08). Our findings demonstrate certain relation hypsomia, anosmia olfactory frequent symptom. Other headache dizziness, dysgeusia ageusia, fatigue. Depression, anxiety, confusion less
